What we do

Legal aid

Our lawyers offer legal aid and advice to all social categories without any discrimination of race, citizenship, gender or social status.
In particular we focus on the advocacy of the rights of detainees, immigrants and refugees, aiming at putting into application international and national legislation.
We monitor and document trial procedures and encourage supervising over trials, to guarantee that they meet the standards of the fair trial.
We monitor and denounce any violation of the legal rights of detainees, immigrant and refugees.

Protection of immigrants and refugee

We carry out activities aiming at improving the condition of being an immigrant by providing legal and social assistance.
We cooperate with the UN Refugee Agency to offer legal aid to refugees.
We monitor the conditions of the refugees in Egypt and in the Arab countries and bring an end to the violations of their rights.

Research and fact finding

Our research unit collects information and prepares reports and studies to increase the knowledge about the human rights and the conditions of immigrants and refugees.

Public awareness:

We organize training courses and workshops to call the attention of experts and professionals to the rights of detainees and immigrants.
We cooperate with international and national institutions to provide journalists and legal professionals with training to monitor elections and trials in order to report irregularities.
We organize campaigns and publish educational brochures and booklets to spread human rights culture and democratic participation.

Projects

Current projects

a)

“The right to call”, in cooperation with the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), aims at sensitize legal professionals and the public opinion about the right of the detainee to make contact with his family and inform a lawyer of his condition.

b)

“Towards Activating the role of women in the Bar Association”, in cooperation with Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), plans the organization of training courses addressed to women lawyers, in order to encourage them to get involved in the decision-making process of the board of the Bar Association on a basis of equal opportunities.
